Candid takes a nice bite and hums happily. Apricots are so good.

"You have no idea. I was a little worried coming in here. How about you? Are you glad it changed?"

"I am. It wasn't pleasant, what was in here before, but it had to be done. Level C is my conscious self. Before, I was so walled off emotionally that the only way to progress deeper into the heart was to kill my consciousness, metaphorically speaking. Now I'm open to people, at least certain people, exploring down there, so there's no need for all that messiness."

He finishes one apricot and tosses the rest. "My kids and Wash probably did the most to make that happen but all of you had a part in it."

That makes sense. There is a small twinge of something in Candid's chest but it's barely an echo of an emotion. The kids and Wash did a lot of the heavy lifting in the Heart Game. That makes a lot of sense.

"I'm glad it all worked for the better. Even if it was a little horrifying in the moment. ...Would...it be a terrible idea to try and get to that bar area to apologize to your angry self? It's an idea I had and I figure I should ask here since this is your conscious mind and all."

Macaque gets quiet for a short moment.

"My anger isn't exactly reasonable or rational. I'm not sure how it would react to that. It might be too busy trying to kill you to have a conversation. But then, a lot has changed around here. I can't really answer that question well, I'm sorry."

"Okay. I wanted to run it by you. Since if you said hell no, I wouldn't go. I just wanted to try. And if it looks the same, I'll leave before anything happens. Is that an okay plan by you? If not, I just won't go. I wanna make sure."

"If it's important to you, I'm not going to insist. Just please be careful. That's one part of me that I expect hasn't changed much since it's about my past. And I wouldn't do well with my heaart hurting someone I care about."

"First sign of danger, I'm out. Swear to it. I won't go getting myself hurt," Candid smiles and eats his other apricot.

"I care about you too much to let myself get hurt and hurt you. I've hurt you enough for a lifetime."

"All right." Macaque reaches into his picnic basket and pulls out a little golden key.

"That'll work on the elevator. But you can stick around here as long as you like."

Candid takes the key and he smiles wide.

"Thank you. And yeah, I'll stay here for a while. This is too nice to just run off so quickly."

"It is." He reaches into the basket again. "Anything else you want? It doesn't have to be food, I can pull anything out of here."

"Alright. Uuum. Oh! Those cherry candies? The ones that feel like a hug? I know it's food but still. And some water? Oh and a blanket so we can snuggle before I go? I know that might be a lot. Sorry if it is."

Macaque chuckles and pulls out a package of bottomless cherry hug candies, a large bottle of cold water, and a blanket which he fluff out over them both while reeling Candid in with one arm.

"There we go."

Candid smiles wide as he takes the candies and a drink of water. He snuggles close to Macaque and rests his head on his shoulder.

"Oh that's nice. Hmmm. Thank you. For just everything you do for me."

He is pretty cute when he's all snuggly. Macaque gives him a little squeeze.

"I like doing things for you. Especially in here, where not everything is candy and wildflowers."

Candid smiles and sighs happily.

"Heh. I do like that. Not that candy and wildflowers aren't nice too. I do know I should go deeper before I wake up or you do. I know if we stay like this a little while then I'll be ready to head deeper in and can remember this to keep me grounded."

"The candies will keep you grounded. They feel like a hug, remember?"

Macaque retracts his arm and the blanket. "I think it's time to get going, mister."

"I know. This still helps too." Candid nods and stands up. He smiles at the conscious Macaque.

"I'll talk to you outside then when I get through. See you then."

He heads back to the elevator.

"See you." Macaque waves as the elevator doors open. The keyhole to get past level C to Levels S, S1, and U is waiting.

If you happen to look back, Macaque and his basket are gone.

Candid moves to the elevator and steps in. He does look back out and sees Macaque and his basket are gone. He smiles to himself.

"I can do this. I won't mess this up. I won't." He inserts the key and chooses level S.
