"It is? Is it just emotions?" Red Son asked.

"That's all I'm feeling from it. Just that it's important. And for me. What about yours?"

"Twisting yourself up and crying in a corner if that's what it takes to make things right," he said, looking at the stick.

"...the anchor is good. Its important. But the void is...repairing a wall. Making it part of the house. A lot of these memories are about choices," he said. "I think it would be better to use the Samadhi Fire, or choosing to help Wukong. Where he in control of his choices, as questionable as they were."

"Choices," MK said as he thought back to his memories. The memories he had in his bag.

"I mean, I got a couple about choices. His choice to help me with making the game. Or his choice kinda being taken by the Lady Bone Demon. The game controller might work. So that one is good too. Okay. It's his home too. Macaque cares about Cole. This is his home. He found me with the game on Flower Fruit Mountain. That was his home too. I think it's the game controller. And people have games in their bedrooms. I do," MK was trying to think out loud mostly.

They had good choices. But which was the right one?

"Being taken by the Lady Bone Demon isn't really a choice as being very much trapped with no good option. Choosing to help you may also work. Can you tell me more about that memory?" Red Son asked.

"The coins were him doubting if he really should help Wukong again. He expected to be rejected again, but he went anything. The Samadhi Fire was about him choosing to take back his control. Even if it hurt, it was worth having his freedom."

"The controller he was being hunted by Peng. So he was hiding but knew I was in trouble. So he ended up grabbing programming books to teach me something I needed to know. And he said it would be easy for me to just know it, for once. He learned to program just to make it for me."

"So all choices, but different flavors. The choice to risk his life and learn skills for someone he cares about. The choice to risk his life for his own freedom. And the choice to face rejection again, but to help two people he cares about," he said.

"But which belongs in the bedroom? He chose to be here. It became his home. Hmmm. There's gotta be another clue, right? Everything here is so quiet. Why is it so quiet?"

"Because its peaceful," Red Son said.

There is a pause.

"There is....also the peacock masque. It...it was him thinking it was nice to connect with me. That he decided to keep doing so could be a choice," he said quietly. "It was...quiet. Peaceful."

MK smiled and nodded.

"I think that sounds like a good fit. Let's try that one. His choice to get closer to you. Because you, like this place, feels like home."

Red Son swallows at that, looking towards the bedroom. "I...do you really think that would be okay?" He asked softly.

"It makes sense to me. They're his memories. And he feels at home here. Why wouldn't it be okay? I think it fits. And we still got South to do after this. We'll find where these all go. Go ahead. Put it in."

MK started walking toward the bedroom. It made sense to him. Red Son and Macaque had something. It was obvious. And they started out as just sex but things grew. If anything was going to fill that void, it being his choice to keep loving Red Son would be it, right?

Red Son follows MK, playing with the string of the cat hoody. "I just...I want to put something of him loving me in. I know I want to, but I don't...its hard to trust myself," he said as he followed.

Because he's selfish. He can be so cruel. He could take and take and take if he didn't watch it.

He stands beside the bed, reaching into the bag for the peacock masque. He looked to MK. "It....it does fit, right?" Just that last bit of reassurance.

"It fits," MK said with a nod. "Peaceful. Safe. Home. Choice. All of it works. The mask goes here. It's going to be okay. Alright? It's going to be okay," MK said with a nod and a smile.

Red Son takes a shuddering breath. "...okay. Okay," he said, nodding. He thought of it. MK agrees.

And it was a choice.

It was a choice then to keep up their friendship.

He let's out the breath and will put in the peacock masque.

With the peacock mask in place, the void closes up. There is no indication of whether you've done the right thing, only the stretch of peaceful silence in this place.

MK looked around. Nothing. He took a deep breath and hoped that was right.

"Alright. Guess we head back and go South?"

He nods, reaching for MK's hands. "Let's go south," he said, and pulling out his phone. "So you have a happy about the surgery, a fancy dagger, and a feeling of home, yes?"

"Yeah. Feelings of hope. And some other memories from the lobby, yep." MK nodded, laced his fingers with Red Son's and headed back toward the way they came in.

"I'm going to put it out as a group text. Keep track of who has what. I imagine the shadow portals will help us trade objects as needed," Red Son said.

"That's a good idea. I'll add my list of what I got. This might get awkward..."

"...some things are important enough that you should be making the choice yourself anyway," he said.
