Macaque kisses Lucifer again and then snuggles up against him. "I'm so lucky that we found each other." It hasn't been long, but Lucifer brings so much to his life that he desperately needs.
Lucifer kisses back and holds onto Macaque tight. "We are both lucky, my love." Lucifer needs this too. This love and affection Macaque brought into his life. And it all started with a possible fight.
"It's funny. You found me thinking I was a threat. How quickly things turned from suspicion to attraction and now this. My charming mate and me."
Macaque chuckles warmly. "I'm not sure which I found more attractive initially, your proctiveness for your daughter or the fact that you like musical theater and have a voice that could turn anyone's head."
Lucifer relaxes and starts to just groom the back fur he can reach with his claws.
"You really think so? You were so confidence. So sure. You just moved with it all like you did with the dancing. I like that a lot about you. How you just seem so sure of yourself. Even if you might not be."
Macaque is purring up a storm by now. The grooming feels so good. He can hardly believe he went without it for so long.
"I have a lot of practice seeming sure of myself when I'm not. And if it could pull you in, then it was worth all my efforts." He kisses Lucifer's neck, softly. "And yes, I think you were adorable. So open and genuine. I have a weakness for that." No prizes for guessing where that came from.
Lucifer loves the sound of that purring. It's comforting and he keeps grooming for sure. To help shake loose fur and any dead skin. Like a good mate. He purrs and kisses the top of Macaque's head and down his shoulder.
"The practice had done you well," Lucifer said softly. He blushes at Macaque's words. He can guess where that weakness comes from. It's a fifty fifty shot really but he's sure which one it is.
"What can I say? You dropped my defenses. A concerned father turned dance partner? It was hard to keep my guard up. And I'm glad I didn't. I feel in love with you and I am so happy I did."
Macaque takes meticulous care of his coat so there's nothing that really needs groomed away, but he still appreciates the feeling.
Spying that blush, Macaque can't help but smile. "You were irresistible with the dropped defenses. I didn't stand a chance." He kisses Lucifer, gently. "I'm happy we both did. I already can't imagine my life without you in it."
Lucifer loves how this fur feels under his fingers. So soft and thick. Cared for. He looks up and blinks. He kisses back and smiles with lidded eyes.
"I'm thrilled we both did. I want you in my life for the rest of creation, my love." He cups Macaque's cheek. He means it with all his heart. He does. He wants Macaque to portal in from his shadow in Hell. To portal to him in his world. To see the sunsets, the red skies, and know that nothing will ever keep them apart.
Lucifer is so sweet and wonderful. He will never grasp how his wife could leave. Macaque is determined never to hurt Lucifer in that way. He'll be around as long as he's wanted. Portals to other worlds will just have to be arranged, he's not going to give Lucifer up.
--Actually, that reminds him of something.
"I love you too. And I have a gift for you."
He reaches over, opens a portal, and pulls out a large shadow blanket. But it's not just glimmering shadows. There's a scene on the blanket, an animated scene of a duck pond. The ducks in various shades of yellow and brown and green and the water a pure blue against the black backdrop. The water and ducks move around constantly, like one is watching a video feed.
"This is made from my shadows. So when we're sleeping apart, you can still feel me holding you." Macaque has several mates after all, he has to divide his time equally. He drapes it over Lucifer's shoulders and he will indeed get the sensation of Macaque all around him.
Lucifer blinks and watches. The blanket emerges from the portal and his eyes widen. Tears well up in his eyes. He reaches out to touch the floating ducks. He traces after them as they swim. He feels it wrap around him and he gasps. He pulls it close to his sides and presses forward. He can feel his mate all around him. He presses his forehead against Macaque's and cups both his cheeks.
"You amazing amazing creature. This is beautiful. I'll cherish it," He kisses Macaque gently.
"And I will get you an equally heartfelt gift. Just you wait. And don't you dare say I don't need to. Yes I do."
Watching Lucifer's reaction made the time spent weaving the thing from shadows and magic totally worth it. Macaque smiles softly as he watches Lucifer react to the design, and then to the feeling. He leans his forehead against Lucifer's, delighted that he likes the gift.
"I won't object, since I know it's important to you. But mostly I just wanted you to have something of me in your bed." For when they're apart, for the depression days when he can't move.
"It will be on my bed forever more. So I can feel you hold me every night when we are apart," Lucifer said with a grin. He nuzzles against Macaque's cheek with his own.
"Now. How do I clean this? Are shadows and magic dry clean only or magic clean only?"
Macaque chuckles fondly. "It's made of refracted light. It won't gather anything that needs cleaning. But if you find that it needs to be altered in some way, you can do it with magic. Change the shape, feed the ducks, skip rocks on the water, make it into a plushie and back again. It's there for you no matter what. It'll never fade or break or lose its feeling. Just like my love for you."
"So you're saying nothing, and I mean nothing, we do in bed could get this beautiful thing dirty?" He asked with a flirty smile. Of course he was going to go there.
"You romantic. Hmmm. I will cherish it as I cherish you and your love," Lucifer kisses Macaque gently on the nose, then again on the lips.
Lucifer cups Macaque's cheek as they kiss. He smiles and trails his claws down his cheek, neck, and chest.
"I will do both my worst and best when I can. Oh you beautiful temptation you. The things I'll do to you. With you. Hmm. But to turn his away from our inevitable and amazing journey. You are amazing yourself, love. I want you to know that. Despite it feeling like you aren't right now. You truly are. And I know so many others would echo those words and feelings."
Macaque is smiling at first, as Lucifer holds his face and kisses him. And while listening to thoughts of when they can finally sleep together. It fades, though, when the affirmations start, and Macaque looks away.
"I know that you're trying to help, and you're wonderful for it, but that's very hard to hear right now."
As the smile fades, Lucifer's heart rate increases slightly. Oh no. Did he say something wrong? Oh. He said something hard to hear. His face softens and he nods.
"I am sorry it is hard to hear. And I'll stop. But I will not take it back. ...For right now, it is okay that is hard to hear as well. I won't push you to accept or listen. You made mistakes. We all do. We all sin. What matters is what happens after. What you do to try and make amends. With others, and yourself. And you're allowed to take time to figure out what comes next."
Macaque hears that heart rate jump and immediately softens.
"Hey," he says, leaning in close, "you're no going to do anything that will chase me off. It's all right if you say things that are hard to hear. You're my mate now. That's not something either of us would do lightly." No freaking out because Macaque has his dumb overemotional bullshit happening.
He understands why Lucifer gets a little freaked about thinking he misstepped. But Macaque isn't going to leave him, at least not by his choice.
"I'm going to do my best. I just need to get my bearings. Think through where I went wrong and how to make sure I don't make things worse. I have a bad habit of doing that." Snapping when he should be compassionate.
Lucifer leans back in and swallows as he listens. Macaque can read him so well, he didn't even know that was the frightening thought running through his mind until Macaque said it. He nods and presses their foreheads together.
"I know you are. And thank you. I want to help but I also know sometimes the only way to help is acknowledge. I was...I guess I just wanted to give you words to think back on. That might help you later." He whispers and cups Macaque's cheek.
"Okay. Then let's talk that through just a little? Now or later. Help you work through it with words. So you don't spiral in your mind."
"You are helping. Sometimes I need to hear things that are hard. I just need time to process. It's rare that I don't need that time. Especially now. I'm a bit like a raw nerve at the moment and I want to be sure that I'm not going down bad paths again, like I did with Wukong." He knows how much he fucked up there, and desperately wants to keep the happiness he found.
The word spiral sort of hits him hard, and he finds his throat suddenly dry. Is that what he does? The same thing that he was trying to help MK stop doing?
Maybe it is. He just does it in his head mostly rather than in panicked words out loud.
"I know I didn't intend it, but my actions could have caused MK to be killed. It's not something I can get over easily, even with perfectly logical counterarguments told to me. Especially since I hurt him so much in the past. This feels like one more time that I hurt him, and there was plenty of evidence that I should have asked more questions and maybe things would have been different."
Lucifer is relieved to hear that maybe it's needed. That it is helping. He can see the word hit Macaque like a brick. He cups his cheek and traces the cheekbone with his thumb. Help him talk through it. MK could have been killed or suppressed or erased. Whatever would have happened if Candid had gotten his way. The arguments and logic can't erase the guilt and pain. He knows that all to well himself. But maybe helping Macaque confront it, talk through it more, will help.
"Maybe things could have been different, yes. Asking more questions. Pressing the issue. I guess I will ask then, why didn't you?"
